It’s been another busy week in the world of AI… more announcements, more concern and more tools! As we’ve been expecting, there have been a surge in new business ventures involving AI. Just like the dotcom boom of the late 90s, many of these are running on hype and buzzwords and not much else, but there are some great concepts out there which are creating real value. Let’s dig in.

Startup with ChatGPT as CEO raises $100k!
A month ago, venture capitalist and entrepreneur posed a simple question to ChatGPT: How to create the most profitable company with just $1000 USD and 1 human hour per day. Oh, and did I mention that ChatGPT is the acting CEO? Yep. The result of that query is premium apparel company, AISthetic_Apparel. The company (human and machine) closed their first pre-seed round of $100,000 USD. The journey is documented in detail by the founder, João Ferrão dos Santos, on LinkedIn.

Microsoft makes the new Bing with ChatGPT integration available to everyone.
In March, Microsoft’s Bing search engine stepped out with a new GPT4 powered chatbot, but it required you to join a waitlist first. That restriction was removed this week and the new experience may be tried by all. You will still need to signup using a Microsoft account, but you will be granted immediate access. The new chatbot allows you to search the web using more natural language, and even have some amusing conversations with us mere humans.

Zillow launches a plugin for ChatGPT
The online real estate / housing company has decided to dip its toes in the AI waters with the release of a new plugin for ChatGPT. Plugins are still under a waitlist, with OpenAI slowly rolling out access to select users. If you’re lucky enough to have access, the new plugin will allow you to interact with the Zillow service via ChatGPT to find properties.

Harvey, an AI focused legal firm raises $21 million
Not a lot is yet known about Harvey, a stealthy startup using GPT4 generative AI technology to transform the legal industry. The company plans to use Natural Language, aka Chat, to generate legal briefs, summarize complex legal documents and create contracts. The fledgling company raised $21M in its latest round, lead by Sequoia.

IBM replacing 7800 jobs with AI
You know how everyone has been saying that AI is coming for your job? Well, IBM has fired the first salvo and announced that it will pause hiring of certain jobs that it believes will be replaceable with AI in the futures. What you do you think of IBM’s decision? Is it a one-off or just the beginning?

GitHub announce a new chat interface for its popular Copilot tool
GitHub, the code storage powerhouse brings a chat interface to its popular Copilot tool. The existing tool already has changed how developers write code, already with the ability to understand numerous programming languages, interpret existing code and offering time-saving suggestions. The new addition will allow developers to interact with the Copilot engine directly and ask questions about the code they are working on. Impressive!
